Obesity Results

Ideal Protein Results Presented at Cleveland Clinic and National Obesity Conferences

Findings Show Safe, Rapid Weight Loss and Lower Risk Factors for Heart Disease, Diabetes with the Ideal Protein Protocol

Gatineau, QC.  (December 1, 2014) - Findings of an analysis of 233 patients on the Ideal Protein protocol over 12 weeks were presented recently at the 9th Annual Obesity Summit at the Cleveland Clinic, and at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the National Obesity Society.  The results show safe, rapid weight loss, and the reduction of risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
Ideal Protein is a scientifically researched solution to safe weight loss with a four-stage, low carbohydrate, ketogenic diet. Currently more than 3,000 medical practitioners in the U.S. and Canada offer the Ideal Protein protocol to their patients to lose weight and reverse metabolic syndrome – the cluster of conditions that are pre-cursors to heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

“These findings are consistent with what we are seeing in our clinics with the Ideal Protein program, and it is gratifying to see these results validated by the scientific analysis of the data. The findings demonstrate that there is consistent weight loss, as well as improved lipid profiles for cholesterol balance and the reduction of other risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and stroke,” said Dr. Tim Logemann, MD, the cardiologist who led the study. “As a cardiologist, I am always looking for ways to help my patients get healthier, improve their lipid profiles and reduce the risk of heart disease. The Ideal Protein protocol is a major tool that will help us accomplish these goals.”

“Our society is in the middle of an obesity epidemic, with skyrocketing rates of diabetes and heart disease – both of which are associated with obesity,” said Olivier Benloulou, president of Ideal Protein. “That’s why the Ideal Protein protocol was developed. Thousands of healthcare professionals are telling us that not only are their patients losing weight safely, but that they are improving their lab results. These findings presented at two major research conferences provide the validation for these reports.”

The two poster presentations are entitled Effect of the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method on Weight Loss and Metabolic Parameters and The Effect of a Very Low Carbohydrate Diet on Residual Dyslipidemia in Statin Treated Overweight Patients. Authors of the studies are Dr. Timothy Logemann, MD; David K. Murdock, MD, MS, FACC, FACP, FSCAI; Kelly O’Heron, RD and Adam Hoffmann.

Effect of the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method on Weight Loss and Metabolic Parameters followed 233 patients for 12 weeks on the Ideal Protein protocol. The data showed that patients lost an average of almost two pounds a week. Their lab results showed lower cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides and glucose readings during that time. The Ideal Protein protocol resulted in rapid weight loss and marked improvement in metabolic parameters in a short period of time.

The Effect of a Very Low Carbohydrate Diet on Residual Dyslipidemia in Statin Treated OverweightPatients followed 36 patients on the Ideal Protein protocol who were on statin therapy and who had residual dyslipidemias (imbalance of lipids and/or high cholesterol).  Total cholesterol, non-HDLC and triglycerides all dropped, especially triglycerides which were reduced from 214 to 90. The Ideal Protein protocol showed a powerful effect on lipid abnormalities and can significantly improve the residual dyslipidemia in statin treated patients.

“Dr. Logemann’s results and their acceptance at such prestigious conferences is gratifying recognition of Ideal Protein’s ability to achieve safe, rapid weight loss and improve the patient’s health profile,” said Olivier Benloulou. “We are now working with cardiologists, physicians and healthcare practitioners throughout North America to bring this solution to more patients.”

Dr. Logemann commented, “While this was a relatively small study with exciting and encouraging results, we are looking forward to more research to further validate these findings.”

BBQ Season

SHAKE IT UP IN JUNE
Copyright Tonya Hill May 2012

June is the start of bbq season and I know how mentally challenging that can be for someone who is working hard to lose weight and get healthy. Although hard, it is manageable with planning ahead, help from me, and a positive attitude. Those tempting foods will always be in front of us, so why not start now on learning how to find substitutes for those unhealthy foods so that we can be happy and healthy forever. (Because that is the goal, right?) In this month’s newsletter, I have included some recipes that will help you through the cravings after seeing those bright red strawberries at the grocery store. Although we all want to eat them, we know it’s not worth cheating, but who says we can’t enjoy our own summertime treats? What you all do everyday isn’t easy and I am proud of each and every one of you for your hard work and dedication. Keep up the good work, and hope to see you all at the open house and seminar this month!

The Importance of Water This Summer!

With the heat of summer setting in, one essential element our body needs is water. The minerals and electrolytes found in water are key aspects to our health.

Bottled-water1
There are many other prominent effects that drinking water entails such as regulating the temperature of our body, helping break down food and carry nutrients throughout our body, as well as allowing our muscles to work to their full potential. If you are planning on exercising, consume water well in advance to allow the body time to hydrate. One consequence of not consuming enough water is dehydration. When our bodies are dehydrated this can cause fatigue and dry skin. Dehydration can become a serious issue which inevitably leads to heat strokes. To stray away from complications drink plenty of water and remain active this summer.

How to Perfectly Cook Your Veggies

If you’re pressed for time but still want to prepare healthy meals, try steaming. This cooking method is delightfully simple, incredibly speedy, and especially healthy because more nutrients are retained during the cooking process (compared with other cooking methods). Plus, steaming brings out the natural flavor of your veggies. If you've never steamed vegetables before, here are two ways to master this technique.

On the Stovetop:
  1. Add 1 or 2 inches of water to a large pot and bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. Prepare your vegetables for cooking: After washing thoroughly, cut them into equal-sized pieces to ensure even cooking.
  3. Place your steaming basket (a specially designed tool that fits inside a pot and holds food just above the surface of the water) in the pot of water. Or use a bamboo steamer, which sits above steaming water.
  4. Add vegetables and cover.
  5. Cook until vegetables reach the desired texture and tenderness. In general, most vegetables require only 1 or 2 minutes of steaming, since steam is even hotter than boiling water. If you like your veggies tender, cook them a little longer; if you prefer your veggies on the crisper side, cook for a shorter period. Be careful not to overcook, or you'll end up with mushy vegetables.
  6. Carefully remove the lid (remember, the steam can burn your hands!) and take the vegetables out of the basket. Serve them immediately with sauce or seasoning, including lemon juice and any spice that doesn't contain added sugar, or with fresh chopped herbs, such as parsley, basil, or chives.
In the Microwave:
  1. Prepare your vegetables for cooking: After washing thoroughly, cut vegetables into equal-sized pieces to ensure even cooking.
  2. If you have the plastic bags made especially for microwave steaming, follow the directions on the box; otherwise place vegetables in a large, microwave-safe shallow bowl (a glass bowl, for example) and follow the rest of the steps below.
  3. Add just a little water to the bottom of the bowl (about 1 tablespoon per cup of veggies).
  4. Cover the bowl with microwave-safe plastic wrap and fold back in one spot to allow steam to vent.
  5. Microwave on high for 4 to 8 minutes (depending on the thickness of the vegetables) or until your veggies reach the desired texture and tenderness. Serve with  sauce or seasoning.

What's on your plate lately ?

Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month®? Now is a good time as ever to think about your daily eating habits and decide whether or not to make changes for the better.

Maybe you’re bored with eating a salad everyday for lunch. Or perhaps grilled chicken and veggies for dinner two months straight just isn’t leaving you satisfied. Here are some of today’s top trends that you may want to look into.

The Ideal Protein Weight Loss Program provides you with the nutritional information that ensures you continue to enjoy your new body shape, skin tone, health and energy after the program ends.

Organic – Eating organic doesn’t have to break the bank. Organic foods are no longer just offered at specialty health food stores. Today they are available at grocery stores everywhere. Go organic to avoid fruits and veggies sprayed with pesticides. Also choose hormone-free/antibiotic-free meat and dairy products.

Gluten-Free – We recently posted about a gluten-free diet here. People who have been diagnosed with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity are advised to follow a diet that excludes the protein gluten to control symptoms, such as bloating, excess gas and abdominal discomfort.

Trans Fat-Free – High intake of trans fat has been consistently linked to an increased risk of heart disease and it may even raise the risk of depression.

More Americans today recognize the harmful health effects and are cutting trans fats for their diets altogether. Check your food labels, especially on items like margarine and baked goods.

It's that time of year again.

The time when our family and friends gather to eat, socialize, and enjoy one another’s company.  That’s right…Thanksgiving is just around the corner.  I’m sure you’re wondering how you are going to make it through this year while being able to maintain Phase 1 of the Ideal Protein diet.  Well my friends, I’ve heard it all over the last few weeks as this time of year has crept up on us.  However, as promised, I’m not going to send you off to family dinner without safe options of treats and dishes that you will be able to eat and enjoy.  My goal is to help provide you with some IP friendly menu options that will allow you to feel like you’re not missing out on the holiday experience.  So, I’ve done some digging around for different ideas and have made them my own.  Over the next few weeks, I will continue to provide you with recipes that you will be able to use throughout the next few months.  Of course these recipes can be altered to fit your taste. It’s all about Shaking it Up and making it your own.  Enjoy your holiday!

Wanting to have Pumpkin Pie just like everyone else?  This dessert is simple and sure to satisfy that craving, allowing you to have two servings of protein in one!

Fall is here

It’s that time again…. the weather is cooling and leaves are turning.  With the change of the seasons, I always find that a warm drink soothes the soul.  Whether it’s a Latte, Chai, or just a simple steamer, there always seems to be a source of comfort that comes… no matter our preference for a good drink.  It’s sometimes difficult to find a replacement for a source of comfort that outlines and sometimes defines our routines.  Many of you have changed habits to improve your health.  With those changes, we often sacrifice comfort foods.  Mind you, that doesn’t mean it’s forever….you can do anything for a short period of time!  However, finding substitutes can be difficult.  I’m here to Shake it Up and offer a wonderful replacement that I have recently discovered.  A nice warm Chai is always a good way to start your day, especially with the new chill in the air.  Until now that has proven to be a challenge for some of you as we have eliminated certain foods from your diet.  It’s simple and will help you start your day off right… or bring your day to a nice relaxing close.  Enjoy my friends!
In the mood for a dessert but still need to get your veggies in? This fabulous treat can be served warm or chilled depending on your mood.  Again I come to you with another wonderful cauliflower recipe!  As I experiment daily to find different options and Shake it Up, this vegetable seems to exhibit amazing flexibility in texture and taste.  It seems as though the uses are endless!  Yet again…another amazing discovery has emerged!  It’s simple and takes less than 10 minutes to prepare.

Watch for new ideas and recipes coming up for the Holidays!  Have a happy fall!

Yours in Health,
Jenn

Same old recipes?

Tired of the same old recipes? It's time to get creative with something quick and simple. It's so easy to get complacent when we prepare our meals. I've found that working outside of the box just a little bit helped me tremendously to achieve my weight loss goal thru Phase 1.

So here it is my friends! Cauliflower is the veggie of the week! It's become one of my staples in my refrigerator since I've been on the Ideal Protein Diet. I find that it is especially helpful also now that I've been phased off. It's my goal to try and provide you with some of the ideas and recipes that I have instituted to

1. help me lose weight
2. keep the weight off to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

At the end of the day ... or the beginning ... sweets are always welcome! These fun treats are sure to fill you, and not to mention, help you get out of the rut of doing the same thing day in and day out. They're fast and take less than a minutes to prepare. Not only that, they're low in carbs, low in sugar, and taste fantastic!

The best part : they're both completely Phase 1 friendly on the Ideal Protein Diet. I t doesn't get any better than that! So end your day ... or begin your day ... with a shake that's sure to leave you coming back for more.

So as crazy as cauliflower pizza sounds, it is a diet friendly food. It will satisfy cravings while leaving you and your taste buds happy!

Yours in health,
Jenn
